What it is actually like
Video is the most direct way to talk to somebody you have never met, and the most exposing. That tension is the whole design problem, and most of this category solves it by making the exit hard to find. We do the opposite: Skip takes one tap, needs no confirmation, and never asks you to explain yourself.
You are paired with one person at a time. If it works, stay as long as you like. If it does not, you are two seconds from the next conversation, and nobody is told why you left.
Your camera can be turned off mid-call without dropping the conversation, so changing your mind costs you nothing. Nothing is recorded, on our side or anywhere else we control.

Is video chat free?
Completely. There is no paid tier, no credits and no paywalled feature.
Do I need an account?
Yes, a free one. It asks for a username, whether you are a man or a woman, your birthdate and an email — no password, a six-digit code is emailed to you. The birthdate keeps the site 18+, and your age and gender are shown to the person you are paired with.
Can I turn my camera off during a call?
Yes, at any point, without ending the conversation. The other person is told your camera is off rather than being left staring at a frozen frame.
Is my video recorded?
No. Video connects directly between the two browsers wherever the network allows it, and we never record, store or watch it.
What if I would rather not be on camera at all?
Use voice chat instead — your microphone only, no camera requested at any point — or text, which requests neither.
