Why voice is the underrated one
Text loses tone, so half of what you meant arrives as something else. Video adds the pressure of being looked at, and a lot of people are simply not up for that with a stranger. Voice sits between them and gets almost none of the attention.
In this mode the camera is not defaulted off — it is never requested. Your browser is never asked for it, so there is no permission prompt, no preview, and nothing that could be recorded.
That changes what people are willing to say. Conversations here tend to run longer and quieter than on video, because nobody is performing for a camera.

Is my camera really never used?
Never. In voice mode the browser is not asked for camera access at all, so no permission prompt appears and there is nothing to switch off.
Can I mute myself?
Yes, at any point, and the other person is told you are muted rather than being left wondering.
Is the audio recorded?
No. It connects directly between the two browsers where the network allows, and we do not record, store or listen to it.
Do I need an account?
Yes, a free one: a username, whether you are a man or a woman, your birthdate and an email. No password — you get a six-digit code by email. Your age and gender are shown to the person you are paired with, and the birthdate is how we keep it 18+.
